What is Contractual Risk Transfer?
It is a good risk management practice to transfer a member’s exposure for the contracted activity to the contractor performing the work. The contractor is in the best position to manage the work and prevent losses. If not completed properly, inadequate risk transfer can create a substantial liability to a member.
The Alliant Insurance Requirements in Contracts is intended to guide your agency in developing contract insurance requirements. Although this manual provides guidance for most situations a member will encounter, there will be exceptions to the rules. If your project is not addressed in the guide, please contact CIRA at 916-927-7727.
